PERSONS living with sickle cell anaemia and their family members will soon heave a sigh of relief as a pastor in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo state has disclosed that his herbal remedy may offer hope of recovery for sufferers.
He said the remedy was capable of changing the genotype of a sickle cell patient from AS to AA, adding that results from treating patients across the country based on laboratory tests before and after use of the remedy is enough proof.
Pastor Rufus Ojuola, who said the result is the effort of over 15 years intensive research, while addressing newsmen, said that a number of patients who received the remedy after reporting sick of the sickle cell anaemia, showed substantial signs of recovery after laboratory tests.
“For example, the father of a two-year old baby, Treasure Orhewere who hails from Afuze, Owan East Local Government Area, Edo state, made available to me a laboratory test result carried out on the child at the General hospital indicating AA genotype instead of the AS after treatment using the remedy”.
Ojuola expressed satisfaction with the cooperation from the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC who has recently given his remedy approval and assisted him with an office in Akure, Ondo state.
He disclosed that he was now mass producing the remedy in bottles with supervision of NAFDAC in order to correct the wrong notion that native medicines are, “crude and dirty”.
The pastor also said he has plans to build a world class sickle cell centre in the country.
